Hi Everyone! This summer, I am going on a Unite for Sight mission in Honduras. I will be at the local clinic and serving on outreach teams to bring eye care acess to local villages. Good eye care is often one of the first things forgone when health resources go scarce, but is ironically closely tied with an individual’s ability to escape the cycle of poverty. In addition to volunteering my time, I am trying to raise funds for the organization; while volunteers are essential, nothing is possible without the appropriate funds. A life saving cataract surgery costs a mere $50 dollars. 19. Not a very special or momentous birthday, per say, but a special one for me.

I don’t know why exactly, but it’s just been one of the best birthdays ever. And I don’t even get that hyped up about birthdays usually.

It’s started the day before my actual birthday, when my host family took me out to eat a nice dinner because they couldn’t be there for my actual birthday.

Then, on my actual birthday, one of my previous host families was supposed to eat out with me. Steve picked me up and told me Lara was gonna meet us at the restaurant. Well, it turns out that Lara, the rest of my host families (including the one that supposedly was busy on my bday), random alumni, and people from heart house were all waiting for me. These people I had spent a mere 3 weeks with planned (perfectly) a surprise party for me. It was so touching and I just kept smiling that whole evening.

Over the weekend, I got to spend time with family, my cousins, and friends. After this weekend, I can fully say that I am so damn lucky to be surrounded by such wonderful people who care about me. I can’t thank everyone enough for supporting me and being awesome friends (:

moved into my second host family’s hosue yesterday. Went out to eat at “the county line on the hill”. Not really sure what part of that name is actually the name, but either way, it was very yummy. I have some leftovers that I shall eat for lunch tomorrow. woot.

Today, I went to mass with them and then out to eat brunch (even though it was past lunch time) at a place called Zax. We attempted to watch Super 8 at the Austin Draft House Theatre (food and movies), but they were full. We’re grilling steaks for dinner.

Who’s gonna be fat, lazy, and failing her summer assignments? me.

So for some reason, I have been very reluctant to get on tumblr in the past couple months, and I think it got to be because tumblr was more about reblogging and following and whatnot, rather than being a place where I could speak my mind.

That said, I’m gonna try to use tumblr more often now, to talk about my experiences volunteering at heart house and interacting and living with ND alumni. I’m very lucky to have this chance.

Also, after not being on tumblr for so long… it looks quite different :P
